Introduction

 The aim of Brushstroke Studios is to teach students of all ages art through the exploration of many mediums.  Art History is incorporated in lessons and techniques are explored.  The students are taught techniques and the use of specific mediums and they are encouraged to create their own individual works of art.  Students will explore such mediums as graphite, conte, charcoal, pastels - soft and oil, pen and ink using a nib and permanent ink, paint - watercolour, tempera, gouache and acrylic, fabric and dyes, sculptural reliefs with Plasticine , polymer clay and a variety of printmaking methods such as stencils and block printing..

 

 

Children and Youth Classes (ages 6 years to 19 years)

During the school year instruction will consist of one hour lessons. Classes are held in small groups of not more than 6 students. The costs of materials are covered in the cost of classes, with the exception of: students 11 years old or more will need Prisma Colour Scholar Art Pencils - 60 count (available at Staples, Deserres or Michaels). You will need the Scholar Pack of 60 pencils and students working on Portfolio Requirements for Art Colleges may require specialized supplies which are to be covered by the student.

The year is divided into three terms.  You can sign up for one term or all three.  The art curriculum is for an entire school year. There is on going registration throughout the school year.

 

Art Instruction

Sabrina Wakfer, the owner and teacher at Brushstroke Studios, is a registered Nova Scotia Teacher.  She has qualifications to teach both elementary school and fine art.  Sabrina holds an Honours B. A. In Fine Art and English Literature and Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario.  She also holds certifications in Special Education, Early Childhood Education and After School Programming of School Age Children. She has updated her check on the Child Abuse and Vulnerable Persons with the R.C.M.P . Sabrina has current Infant/Child and Regular First Aid Certification. She has sold her art works in both Ontario and Nova Scotia.
